ARRIVAL

In the article “Ru”, the author Kim Thuy recalled why she exiled to Canada and her feelings when she arrived in Canada. She would never forget what happened to her and her family.

Kim Thuy was born in 1968 in Saigou that was the capital of South Vietnam at that time. South Vietnam ceased to exist in 1975 when North Vietnam successfully conquered the South Vietnam. Though her family gave up half their property, the communist didn’t leave them alone, who asked inspectors to come to her house and sealed almost every containers. Her parents felt unsafe there, so they decided to exile to Canada.

In the Part Five, Kim Thuy described her feeling and what she saw in her memory when she firstly arrived at Mirebel Airport in Montreal. When she saw white and shinning snow banks, she felt naked in such a white snow because she has never seen the snow in Vietnam, and she finished the terrible life in the boat where there was no day and night. Although her thin clothes made her completely exposed in such cold weather, but she feel excited and shocked when she saw the welcoming people. In the new country, everything is fresh for her, and this is her heaven. In her opinion, there are a lot of appetizers and snacks in the heaven, and this is her dream when she floated on the sea. When she stayed at boat, she thought that heaven and hell’s distance was so close. Fortunately, she arrived in Canada-her heaven, and she began her new life and new challenge.

Border

In the article (" International Migration ", Page 33-38), the author Kose said" There is still a significant global' digital divide', which is the term given to the gap in access to information resources that exists between poor and rich countries".

Reading this made me think about the discrepancy between poor and rich countries, and there is a complex boundary between them. It is difficult for people in poor countries to across the national border to entry rich countries. Many people died when they tried to cross the border to entry rich countries illegally. For example, on Friday, June 23, 2000, 58 Chinese illegal immigrants who died in the back of a lorry bound for the UK desperatery tried to raise the alarm as their oxygen suply ran out. In order to improve the quality of the life, many people in poor countries choose irregular migration to rich countries, though they may face the risk of loosing their life. International migration has never stopped in human beings' history although the style and number of international migration have been changing.

As a result, international migration's political influence is very complex, which even is over people's imagination. Sometimes, the problems that come from migration even are more than benefits from it. For instance, illegal migration has made some countries hardly protect their border and independence. Sequently, illegal migration's issue has become a prominent problem in tradional security domain, so sovereign states have to treat it seriously. Nowdays, international migration's issue is so closed to our life, so we should know about it and face it.
