RETURNS / REFLECTIONS

In the article (" International Migration", page 21-22), the author Kose said " Returning home is one way that people stop being migrants-although often even after returning home people maintain elements of new practices and identities they have developed abroad.

I will finish this course, so I want to explain why people move. We should realize that immigration is a global phenomenon that affects all of us, so we can find a best way to ease the pressures to emigrate. In contemporary society, government leaders debate just who should be able to immigrate. This is because sovereign nations have the right to control their own borders. For example, America and Canada allow some immigrants into their countries each year. However, they don't allow everyone to enter. They accept only a certain number of immigrants who are well educated or have skills in high demand, so many others are not able to enter the country. This is the reason why so many illegal immigrants in America and Canada.

When we look at why so many people are moving from one country to another, the answer lies in the search for a better life. Generally, this means more economic opportunity, such as a job. People often move from poorer countries to richer ones, where the economy is better and more job spaces are available. However, immigrants will often endure a much harder life than they had in their own country, so some immigrants want their children to have a better education and health care, and other immigrants want to have enough money that they expect. If immigrants reached their goal in new country, some of them would think about returning to their homeland. Some immigrants didn't return to their homeland, but they also have thought to come back their country. Because they can't forget their childhood, whenever happiness or tear. Because people also have a homesick situation in their mind, they can't get rid of it.

At last, I thank Nuzhant for your teaching, and I have a great time in this class, especially map quiz and beautiful articles from reading.

ARRESTED MOVEMENTS

In the article "Fences and Windows", the author Naomi Klein express her dissatisfaction with globalization when she saw fences and windows. The government of each country shouts loudly that it can ensure the investor's requirements, but it can't make people satisfied with their demands, such as medical treatment, housing, land and water.

Fence is a barrier seperating people from previously public resources, locking them away from much needed land and water, restricting their ability to move across borders. For example, paid use of education is an invisible fence, and it made millions of people couldn't have money to go to school. However, window is two spatial interface, and it symbolizes light and hope. On the other hand, it also implicates filter and separation, and it cuts landscapes, blocks sounds, temperature and ray. Few people noticed that window gives us one view of landscape, and we can't see the others. For instance, many people thought that globalization and free trade are a kind of good medicine for economy. However, Naomi Klein saw a huge counter shading under this phenomenon. Enterprises permeated all over the world, and created beautiful numbers increase by globalization. At its back, enterprises reduced the staff, transfered their property, gave poison to the environment, and exploited the emplyees.

Few people got all achievement from extensive transaction, and they could have ability to bribe politicians and made politicians enact hoggish policies for them. They pressurized government to reduce medical treatment, welfare benefits and basic education. As a result, many people lost their jobs, so they didn't have money for their housing. Wealthy got more tax-free policies to have quality living environment. Democratic State including Europe and America count on huge advantages of fund and technology, so they abducted WTO, IMF and the World Bank, and created advantaged unilateral trade for them, so this is the real situation of globalization.

ARRIVAL

In the article “Ru”, the author Kim Thuy recalled why she exiled to Canada and her feelings when she arrived in Canada. She would never forget what happened to her and her family.

Kim Thuy was born in 1968 in Saigou that was the capital of South Vietnam at that time. South Vietnam ceased to exist in 1975 when North Vietnam successfully conquered the South Vietnam. Though her family gave up half their property, the communist didn’t leave them alone, who asked inspectors to come to her house and sealed almost every containers. Her parents felt unsafe there, so they decided to exile to Canada.

In the Part Five, Kim Thuy described her feeling and what she saw in her memory when she firstly arrived at Mirebel Airport in Montreal. When she saw white and shinning snow banks, she felt naked in such a white snow because she has never seen the snow in Vietnam, and she finished the terrible life in the boat where there was no day and night. Although her thin clothes made her completely exposed in such cold weather, but she feel excited and shocked when she saw the welcoming people. In the new country, everything is fresh for her, and this is her heaven. In her opinion, there are a lot of appetizers and snacks in the heaven, and this is her dream when she floated on the sea. When she stayed at boat, she thought that heaven and hell’s distance was so close. Fortunately, she arrived in Canada-her heaven, and she began her new life and new challenge.

Border

In the article (" International Migration ", Page 33-38), the author Kose said" There is still a significant global' digital divide', which is the term given to the gap in access to information resources that exists between poor and rich countries".

Reading this made me think about the discrepancy between poor and rich countries, and there is a complex boundary between them. It is difficult for people in poor countries to across the national border to entry rich countries. Many people died when they tried to cross the border to entry rich countries illegally. For example, on Friday, June 23, 2000, 58 Chinese illegal immigrants who died in the back of a lorry bound for the UK desperatery tried to raise the alarm as their oxygen suply ran out. In order to improve the quality of the life, many people in poor countries choose irregular migration to rich countries, though they may face the risk of loosing their life. International migration has never stopped in human beings' history although the style and number of international migration have been changing.

As a result, international migration's political influence is very complex, which even is over people's imagination. Sometimes, the problems that come from migration even are more than benefits from it. For instance, illegal migration has made some countries hardly protect their border and independence. Sequently, illegal migration's issue has become a prominent problem in tradional security domain, so sovereign states have to treat it seriously. Nowdays, international migration's issue is so closed to our life, so we should know about it and face it.

Leaving

In the article (" International Migration ", Page 1-18), the author Khalid Koser writes " There are more international migrants today than ever before, and their number is certain to increase for the foreseeable future. Almost every country on earth is, and will continue, to be affected. Migration is inextricably linked with other important global issues, including development, poverty, and human rights."

Reading this made me think about my country. In contemporary society of China, most of urban people can know the activities of  international migration by media, or they can observe this phenomenon around them. We can feel the influence of the international migration's issue to our society politics and our life. Because every year we can see our colleague, friends, or relatives to immigrate to other countries, and it even becomes a part of our life. Some people apply for independent migration, and the others are exported as overseas labour. There are many international migration's agencies that can help people to get success in immigrating.

In a new period of Chinese policy, it is an important aspact to protect overseas Chinese's justified rights without trespass. On the other hand, it protects foreigner to live and work safety and cosily in China. Finally, international migration as a phenomenon becomes an interesting topic in many people's life, and it can make people think about some relative issues, especially it is relative with people's moral principles to judge. Although international migration issue happens in our life, it is not easy to realize and handle international migration issue. As a result, it is difficult to understand the key problem behind of the international migration.
